Summer Breezes

If you’re watching clouds sail across the skies of Montgomery, Alabama this summer you’re likely to spy a delicately crafted windvane twirling atop the new headquarters building of The Retirement Systems of Alabama. Designed by John Gandy of PH&J architects inc., the piece was inspired by those he created for his own garden at home. Entirely fabricated by Robinson Iron of waterjet cut stainless steel plate the windvane is finished in a powder coated bronze with accents of gold leaf and stained glass. It is constructed with precision balanced ball bearings to allow it to spin in the slightest breeze. This custom windvane provides a whimsical yet practical grace note to the Southeast’s newest architectural gem.
