Rest Area Fountain

Robinson Iron’s enormous archive of antique patterns served as the basis for the hundreds of castings comprising this Victorian-inspired fountain. The centerpiece of the Gardens, the imposing fountain (approximately 20 feet tall and 3500 lbs.) features a superstructure of cast iron with applied figures of cast bronze. Surrounding the base are bathing boys created by the Scottish sculptor Frederick MacMonnies. Cranes adorn the largest tier. At the top is a replica of a sculpture of Hebe, cup bearer to the gods. The original, done in Cararra marble by the Italian sculptor Canova, stands in the Museum of Munich.
